Eddie
Commercial Underwriting Trainee
Originally from Toronto, Eddie studied Business Administration at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. Knowing that he wanted to return home after graduation, and having heard from a friend that it was a great company to work for, Eddie applied online for a position with ING Canada.
“Unfortunately, they wanted someone who could start immediately and I was still in school. Luckily, though, I received an email a few weeks later asking me to apply to the Commercial Lines Trainee Program. I looked into the position and decided it was the right fit for me. The rest is history!”
Launched in 2004, the Commercial Lines Trainee Program is a two-year development program aimed at preparing participants for intermediate Commercial Lines Underwriter positions. The ultimate objective for all trainees, like Eddie, is to progress to an intermediate Corporate Commercial Lines position.
Gordon Payne, Commercial Lines Director, had good things to say about one of ING’s rising stars. "Our Commercial Lines Trainee Program is very challenging. To be successful, a trainee has to be very focused, eager to learn and be prepared to interact with a number of people who can assist them in their development. Eddie has all these skills and is well on his way to becoming a very good Commercial Lines underwriter."
One of Eddie’s favourite things about working for ING is the opportunity to get involved with the community.
“I’m glad to be working for a company that has a sense of social responsibility,” said Eddie.
Not one to sit and watch from the side lines, during this year’s United Way campaign Eddie helped to coordinate “The ING Amazing Race” for employees in the Toronto office. The event was a huge success and helped to contribute to the over $200,000 that was raised by employees in that location – an amount that ING Canada is matching, dollar for dollar.
