Prior to him assuming this role in 2003, Mr. de Vries was Country Manager, ING Group Spain and General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of ING Nationale-Nederlanden Life, ING Nationale-Nederlanden Non Life and ING Employee Benefits. During his tenure in these positions Mr. de Vries changed the insurance company from a monoproduct and monodistribution to a multiproduct and multidistribution company.
Mr. de Vries joined ING in 1986. From 1989 to 1991 he became Manager of Claims Adjusters in Holland until he moved to Canada where he performed the role of IT consultant in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec and later Marketing Manager for Belairdirect. He then progressed to the role of Sales and Marketing Manager in Belgium from 1993 to 1997. Mr. de Vries held the position of CEO Nederlanden Asigurari de Viata in Romania from 1997 to 2000.
Mr. de Vries has a Master of Law Degree and received his Master in Management from WebsterUniversity. He has received his Insurance B and Insurance A designations. Mr. de Vries also participated in the advanced executive management program of CEGEP at Insead Fontainebleau (France).
Mr. de Vries held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Military Service and was the Assistant Professor, Civil Law at the LawUniversity. He is a member of the Board of Directors of various western Equisure companies.
